Privacy Policy — Competitor Watch

Competitor Watch is a Chrome extension that monitors web pages selected by the user and notifies the user when page content changes. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

1. Data we collect

We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. The extension has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no external servers of its own.

All data the extension works with is stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage:

• Your list of monitored page URLs and their settings
• Snapshots of monitored pages (title, price, stock status, page text) used for change detection
• Your in-extension preferences (e.g. language, check interval)

This data never leaves your browser and is removed when you uninstall the extension or delete your browser data.

2. Network requests

The extension only makes requests to the public web pages you explicitly choose to monitor, in order to check them for changes. It does not send your data to any third party.

3. Permissions

• tabs / activeTab — to read the URL and title of the page you want to monitor, and to open monitored pages for content extraction when anti-bot protection blocks standard requests.
• scripting — to extract page content (title, price, stock status, text) from monitored pages for change detection.
• storage — to store your monitor list and snapshots locally in the browser.
• alarms — to schedule automatic periodic checks.
• notifications — to alert you when a monitored page changes.

4. Third-party services

When you open a monitored page, your browser communicates with that website directly, under that website's own privacy policy. We have no control over and take no responsibility for third-party websites you choose to monitor.

5. Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

6. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
